The Bookworm International Literary Festival 2009, which lasts from the 6th until the 20th of March includes fiction, politics, poetry, memoir, translation, travel writing, China, business and journalism and of course writers from across the globe. Festival books are here and tickets are now on sale at The Bookworm!
For 2009 we bring to Suzhou one of the most sought after commentators on China and East Asia, Ian Buruma. The fiction genre will be led by the multiple award-winning Marina Lewycka (A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian), and Rabih Alameddine, who will be presenting his latest novel The Hakawati, hailed by critics as "the book of the year". Blake Morrison (And When Did You Last See Your Father?) will be talking about, amongst other things, how he turned his family story into a critically acclaimed book and movie. To wet our taste buds, Fuchsia Dunlop, internationally-acclaimed food writer, will take us on a journey through the Sichuanese kitchen. And that's only a handful of names from the list we've lined up for Suzhou this coming March. In addition to the unparalleled readings, discussion, insight and debate you've come to expect from The Bookworm, in March 2009 we're delighted to bring you children’s events, hands-on workshops and Becky Swift, a literary consultant, for all those budding writers out there.
There is still time to get involved in this cultural extravaganza which is the festival. Check out the Bookworm website or contact the Suzhou Bookworm festival hot-line at 15850160786 for more information.
